Yes, nature and our dogs have so much to teach us. Patience, love, joy (when u come home), presence (living in the moment), relaxing for example ๐Ÿ˜Ž

That's WAY cooler ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ oh yes exactly! The joy of simple pleasures is one of my favorite traits of dogs. Definitely a trait to embody.

Great insight Colin.

It's true what you say, we hold onto our suffering and bring it with us throughout life.

Something that I've struggled with. I've read some Buddhist philosophy and that has been very helpful. We need to allow the negative seeds to enter our mind, but we need to accept that they are there and then deal with them. Only by respecting the suffering and dealing with it correctly can we hope to move past it.

Most of us don't deal with our suffering. So it remains there for much longer than it should.

Very well written, clear and concise thanks Colin!

"Light and dark are equally powerful." So true!

However, your title assumes there's a way humans can "stop suffering". It's very nice to hear, that we can choose to be positive and just switch the "on" instead of "off". I think indeed our mind is powerful enough that despite any suffering, we can go on and endure, and keep on going. Death in itself is pain, our bodies decay, our minds decay, we are meant to see our closest people leave this earth; we, by default, by simply existing, are highly prone to suffering. We should therefore act accordingly, learn to manage suffering, and surpass any human obstacle by being connected to the divine, by emptying our selves, by remembering every single day this powerful phrase: "From dust you come and to dust you will return".

Thank you Fernanda.

I definitely believe that we can stop suffering. We will always have challenges to deal with but we don't need to suffer for any extended period of time.

Yes, you are right about our strength to endure but that is not the point of our life on earth. The universe wants us to thrive, not struggle. I struggled and endured for over 40 years and I hated life. Now, everything has changed for me through work I have done on myself.

I believe that western culture doesn't understand death. And this comes down to what you have been told and what you believe. Death is not pain, death is natural. And rebirth (like spring after winter) is also natural.

I believe that our soul (if that is the right word) has many different lives. It is even logical to recycle souls than create a completely new one every time someone is born. Death is not the end but a new beginning. Also, energy never dies. A body dies once the energy(soul) leaves that body. The body is just a host, a meat suit in reality.

Within the universe and nature, there is constant death and rebirth. Like a limitless cycle.

Thanks for your insights. I respect your views and they are indeed very interesting.

Coming back to the suffering, I agree that we can choose to thrive, and not be suffering. We can choose to find our mental strength and find contentment, find a place of peace, to find and create beauty, to bring goodness to the world and multiply the blessings with our good deeds. It's a choice how we react to the moments when suffering comes near our shore, because, maybe it's not just us suffering when dying, but the tragedies around us, famines, hunger, malevolence, that we in the modern West don't see so clearly as our ancestors did, and perhaps others around the world see as well.

By the way, I come from Honduras and lived in USA and Europe for a big chunk of my life so I can see what you mean with the notion that in the West we don't understand death. We see so many projects and people trying to defy life; the so called health hackers trying to become transhumanists, as if the goal of life is to perpetuate it. No, life is the death of every single second that passes by. Got to live it in the seconds.

Thank you Fernanda. Yes, coming from Honduras, I can imagine there is still a strong and ancient culture in play so you will understand more than most about life and death etc.

There are so many movies and stories and indeed in real life of people trying to defy death. It simple shows their complete misunderstanding of life. They are terrified of dying and yet are not fully living. I find that odd... But then they are unconscious.

As you said, it is all about living in the present. living for this moment right now.
