There are many beliefs and religions in this world. Many people believe in a bigger picture. In an eternal life. They believe in a higher God that created everything.
Or perhaps they believe in nothing. We are born, we live and die and that’s the end of it. No second chances. Just complete darkness when we die.
There is no life in a vast, limitless universe outside of our earth. And that’s ok. People will believe whatever they choose to believe. They will choose to believe whatever is taught to them when they are young.
Or it will be forced upon them and they will be brain washed daily as a child. Either way, we all have beliefs that we live our life by. Be they good or bad.
A lot of these beliefs come from a place of fear. Fear that if we do not follow these beliefs then we shall live a life in eternal damnation. This all comes from those in power, trying to control the masses.
They teach us about God in whatever form it may take and then they place themselves as the messenger between this big scary God and the masses.
They are his messenger. They are powerful. They get all their wisdom and truth and instructions from God. And therefore, you must listen to everything they say, for it comes direct from God via them.
This is a brilliant way to get people to live in fear that they must do what they're told. They must not think for themselves. They must not follow their own path.
There is only one path and one belief and they must follow it blindly and without question. And as with all these things, when something works very well, man succumbs to temptation.
He loves this feeling of power and so, he creates his own agenda to give himself more power, wealth and freedom. It doesn't take much for the ego to seize the situation and take control.
If all these people listen to me because I am a direct messenger from God then what else can I make them do. How can I manipulate the situation to benefit myself. And so they do.
They hide behind their sense of entitlement and they give themselves gifts. They take what they believe is their right to take in the name of their God. And they cause damage and trauma to their followers.
They make up excuses for their actions. They beg forgiveness and yet, their arrogance makes them believe that they deserve whatever it is they wish to take.
And so, this has been the way of the world for many thousands of years. The Gods themselves have often changed over time, but the system of God and messenger has not altered.
People take actions in the name of their God. They cause untold misery, death and trauma but its ok for they are the chosen one. They have been given the power to carry out their God's work.
And yet, the absolute truth is, they are just a man. Delusional and corrupted by their own sense of power and entitlement. Manipulating others to their will.
They are the very evil that they preach against. My message today is question your beliefs. Question where they come from.
Question if they come from a place from fear or if they come from a place of love.
Question those who see themselves as messengers of their God. They may be pure of spirit or they may be the devil in disguise. Simply be aware of who and what beliefs are being taught to you.
Very interesting. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I believe there is a loving and kind God out there—it’s just not the earthly God that everybody prays to. Individual spirituality is the way to go. Big hug
I'm not going to lie, Colin, you had me thinking this was going one way with the title and opening imagery.
It's a great reminder that stayed fairly faith agnostic throughout, and at least long enough to keep me there til the punchline.
While religious zealotry is not a uniquely American thing, much like Apple we took someone else's good idea and made it even better. I've been battling the tendency to just take a spiritual leader at their word my entire life, as the lone black sheep agnostic in my family.
Just like in writing, finding my authentic faith was my own personal journey.
Thanks for the thought provoking piece today.
