Why Humans Fear the Unknown More Than They Fear Suffering
In ancient times, travelling the seas was incredibly dangerous.
Not just because of storms.
Because sailors believed there were monsters in the deep.
Stories spread of enormous creatures capable of destroying ships and devouring everyone on board. These stories survived for centuries. Many people today assume they were simply myths.
But almost every legend begins with a real event.
The oceans still hold creatures we barely understand. In ancient times, ships were smaller and more vulnerable. Attacks were possible.
Today, ships are much larger and stronger. The risk no longer justifies the effort for these creatures.
But the deep ocean is vast. Much of it remains unexplored.
The monsters may still be there — quietly moving through the darkness, avoiding contact with us.
Human beings tend to believe only what they can see.
If something lies outside our direct experience, we dismiss it.
And because of that, we miss far more than we realise.
The Invisible World Around Us
Much of our world operates through vibration and frequency.
Different frequencies reveal different realities.
Most people move through life operating at a very low frequency. They struggle, feel overwhelmed, and believe life is simply happening to them.
When you live at that level, you only see what is directly in front of you.
But the world is far bigger than that.
There is an immense universe of possibility around us — across time, space, and consciousness.
To experience it, we must raise our awareness.
Nature helps us do that.
Think about standing under a perfectly clear night sky.
Far from cities.
Far from artificial light.
You see stars so bright and numerous that it almost feels unreal.
Or imagine walking through an ancient forest — the kind where humans lived thousands of years ago.
Places like that reconnect us to something deeper.
To the wisdom of our ancestors.
The Hidden Nature of Reality
Science tells us something fascinating.
A table, a tree, even a house — is made up of almost 99% empty space.
But we don’t see the space.
We see the solid surface.
Reality is far less solid than it appears.
Everything is energy.
Everything is connected.
And everything exists within a vast, limitless system.
Yet our beliefs limit what we allow ourselves to perceive.
If something doesn’t fit within our current understanding, we ignore it.
The same way ancient sailors were mocked for believing in sea monsters.
But the universe itself operates through laws.
Everything is connected.
And everything is limitless.
Energy never dies.
When living beings die, the energy that made them alive does not vanish. It transfers.
Perhaps as another human.
Perhaps as another creature.
The possibilities are endless.
Life itself is part of a much larger cycle than we can easily comprehend.
The Modern Human Trap
Yet most of us live completely disconnected from this reality.
We sit behind desks all day.
We travel in crowded transport.
We eat food that harms our bodies.
We breathe polluted air.
We stand next to hundreds of people and still feel alone — because everyone is staring into their phones.
We hide in plain sight.
We are rarely present.
Instead, we live in three places that do not exist:
The past.
The future.
Or the endless distractions in between.
We regret the past we cannot change.
We dream of a future that we hope will somehow be better.
And we distract ourselves from the present moment because it feels uncomfortable.
But deep down, something else is happening.
Many people are afraid.
Not of something specific.
But of the unknown.
The Fear of the Unknown
The greatest fear humans carry is the fear of what lies beyond our understanding.
What if life is not random?
What if we are not victims of circumstance?
What if we actually have responsibility for the life we create?
That idea is uncomfortable.
Because it means we cannot blame everything on the world around us.
It means we must face our pain, our choices, and our patterns.
It means we must recognise something far more powerful within us.
The heart.
The ability to love.
The ability to create.
The ability to change.
But that level of responsibility feels overwhelming to many people.
So instead, they cling to what is familiar.
Even if it is painful.
Even if it is limiting.
Even if it keeps them small.
Because suffering that we understand feels safer than a reality we do not.
The Truth Doesn’t Need Belief
But here is the deeper truth.
Reality does not depend on our belief systems.
The universe does not change based on what we think is possible.
Truth simply exists.
Whether we choose to see it or not.
And the moment we become willing to look beyond our fears, beyond our conditioning, and beyond the limits we place on ourselves —
we begin to see a much bigger world.
A world that has always been there.
Waiting for us to wake up.
If this made you think differently about the world today, share it with someone who might enjoy it too.
One of the places I feel this connection most strongly is in Africa.
Far away from constant noise, screens, and distractions, something shifts. You begin to see the world differently.
That’s one of the reasons I’ve started running small adventure trips there.
Not just to see Africa — but to experience it properly.
If that kind of experience calls to you, you can explore the trips here:

Is it only because we’ve been conditioned to the fear? It’s just familiar, but the things that are familiar are not always the best things for us.
