Creative tension. This is when you are frustrated with yourself. There are things you want to do in your life. Things you want to create for yourself but you feel stuck.
You feel like you keep hitting a brick wall that you simply can't get past. Your frustration and anger increases as the tension increases like an expanding rubber band.
You're putting all your energy into it but nothing happens. There is always something else that you need to do. Always something else pulling you away.
Stuff you really have to do but not stuff you love doing. It is distraction. A movie you really want to watch but don't have to. Having a lie in rather than getting up early and getting to work.
There is always something there that needs doing. Watching a tv show that you can't tear yourself away from. Your phone, scrolling endlessly. Going to the pub with your mates.
The tension continues to mount. Your frustration continues to increase. But you have a choice. Do you simply give up on whatever it is that you wish to create in your life.
Do you give up on your goals and dreams and let the tension ease and slack off. It feels good, doesn't it. No more tension. No more anger or frustration with yourself.
But your dreams have been let go. They disappear into the future, into one day that will probably never come.
The power of a magician is to hold that creative tension and not let go. Feel the frustration and anger building within you. Embrace it.
Know that when you listen to the nudges from your intuition and you take the action steps it will start to dissipate. It will dissipate for the right reasons.
Not because you have let go but because you have taken action towards making your dreams a reality. You have hung out with the tension.
You stuck with it and now your reward is creating something from your heart. And that feeling, when you create this, is truly magical.
It's because there are no conditions. You don't have to get unknown people validating you by congratulating you. In fact, if only one person sees your creation, that’s ok.
It may be a painting or a podcast or a book or even a blog post. It's your personal creation. Done out of love. That’s all that matters. You'll feel amazing for doing it.
You'll love it. And don't worry. People may not say anything but they will see it and they will admire you from a far and you will inspire them to do the same. And sometimes, that may be what it is all about.
Inspiring others to sit with their own creative tension, listen to theirs nudges and take action.
And you'll never know anything about it but the universe will know and it will thank you. And your heart will feel warm and loved.

With greetings and health to all the world, I must say that a powerful country like the United States of America should always take the side of the right and the truth, help the oppressed and not condemn the oppressor, take the side of the right and put the wrong in its place, with All countries should have constructive contact and interaction and deal strongly with the rebels regardless of whether they are friendly or unfriendly, regardless of whether it is Iran or Israel or Saudi Arabia, whether the Muslim people are philosophic or the Jewish people of Israel, everyone is right. Take it. # Muhammad's first and last words
Thanks for this, Colin! I hadn't really labeled it a rut, but I have been feeling some hopelessness today as I consider my whole 'writing, coaching, community building' path forward. In fact, it's been chewing at my brain all week.
I don't know if I have a particularly stupid gut, or my subconscious likes to really mull things over, but it's always interesting to see my perspective shifting as I'm either figuring something out or shifting my path oh so slightly. I move like a cruise ship, not a speed boat. (c;
