Perfectionism
We seek perfection in others and yet it is our imperfections that make us human. By design, we are not perfect.
And yet, when we wish to create something in our lives, we seek it to be perfect before we show it to the world.
When I read the audio of my posts, I seek for it to be perfect but I often jumble a few words. I'm getting better but it isn't perfect.
I wonder if this spoils the experience or enhances it. I could spend hours trying to get it perfect.
Reading it again and again but I will probably get to the point where I give up and either read it as it is or don't do it at all because it is not perfect.
It is perfection that is one of our beliefs that hold us back. Before we launch our new business we want everything to be perfect.
We want the website and our marketing copy to be perfect. But it never will be. It will become an infinite search which often results in no action at all.
We don't launch our business because it is not perfect and so it never happens. Others don't benefit from our skills and experience because we were trying too hard to make it perfect.
It's not to say that we should not strive to make what we do very good. But striving for perfection will simply hold us back in life.
If every author wanted to make sure their book was absolutely perfect before they launched it, there would be no books in the world. The same with movies.
There are always little blips or slight inconsistences in movies but most of these are never picked up. Photographers search for the perfect shot.
And yes, it is important to search for that perfect shot but if you don't take any shots then no one will see any of your photos. People's perception of perfection is also different.
What is perfect to you, may not be perfect to another. Which proves that perfection is impossible.
One man sees a beautiful woman as flawless and perfect but other doesn't find her attractive at all. His idea of perfect is totally different.
So be aware of when you are striving for perfection but it is actually holding you back. The same goes for when you are collecting resources before you start an adventure or business or retreat.
You buy everything you could possibly need and more. You make sure it is all new and shiny. But the reality is that you won't need most of the stuff you are buying.
Everything doesn't have to be new and perfect. You can start small. Start with what you have. This is just another way that we hold ourselves back before we start.
And all it leads to is not starting. It keeps us small and insignificant rather than putting ourselves into the world and sharing our skills and knowledge and experience.
Helping people, changing lives and serving mankind to the greater good. It takes awareness to understand what's going on and what's holding you back.
Once you develop this awareness then you can change. You can take the required action and you can create what you would love to create in your life.
And you can progress and move forward in your life.
