In ancient times, there was a young man called Makcow that was coming of age. He was soon to face a very tough test to prove that he was capable of becoming a man and a good husband to a woman of the tribe.
He was nervous about his upcoming test and went to see the spiritual leader of the tribe. An old man that lived away from the village on a hill overlooking it.
It was a bit of an arduous climb up to the man's hut, but it was an important part of the journey from boy to man. Makcow approached the hut was very humble and quiet as he went forward slowly.
He heard noises from inside the hut, gargling and straining. Makcow became worried. Was the old man dying or being attacked.
He burst through the door and saw the wise man before him, prone on the floor, clutching his throat. Gasping for air. Makcow had no idea what to do.
It was too far to go back and get help. He had to do something right now to save the man in front of him. He looked around frantically for something in the small hut that may be useful.
There was a jar of what looked like water. He threw this over the spiritual leader's face. It seemed to jolt him even though the water was actually wine.
Regardless, the man continued to struggle for breath. Makcow decided to pick him up and take him outside. Perhaps he needed some fresh air.
Makcow discovered that despite the man looking so old and frail that he was very heavy. So much so, that he couldn't lift him.
He squatted down again and tried once more but it was like he was stuck to the floor. He found more jugs of wine and doused the old man in them again and again.
Finally, the old man’s eyes opened as he stared at Makcow, pleading and desperate. Makcow realised that he was being attacked by some kind of evil spirit.
He just went with his instinct which was to put his hand on the man’s heart space and shout with all his might, "Be gone evil spirit". He shouted again and again.
Almost out of fear but a bit of anger coming in as something was attacking the villages important leader that they could not do without.
Finally, a dark, black could of energy seemed to leave his body with a great rush of force. So much so that it blew Makcow backwards and onto his back.
The dark energy seemed to try and attack Makcow but he shouted no with all his might and pushed the dark cloud away from him. Although there was nothing to actually push, it was about the energy he used.
His mother had taught him about high vibrational energy and how good it was against low vibrational energy. High vibration was unconditional love for everyone and everything around you.
Low vibrational energy was people complaining about everything. Being miserable when they didn't get their own way. Fighting with others. Being angry with the world.
All states of low vibration. Gratitude and spirituality were part of high vibration. This, his mother had told him, is what you should strive for.
Makcow remembered what he was grateful for in the world, he reminded himself about his love for his family and his tribe and the animals. The dark magic was repelled, and it flew out the door and into the night sky.
Makcow looked at him on the floor. He was staring up at him in amazement. He tried to speak but he was too exhausted.
He was also soaking wet and covered in wine that Makcow had thrown over him to try and change his state. It had worked but now the old man was cold.
Makcow found some something to dry him off. He dabbed at the man's body. He didn't want to cause more harm. He got the old man to sit up so that he could dry his back.
There was a bed in the corner of the hut that he moved him over to. He helped him change into fresh and dry animal skin clothes and made him comfortable.
He made him drink some water that he had finally found amongst all the pots in the hut. He put a hand on Makcow's arm. It was a gesture of gratitude, but no words were or needed to be spoken.
Makcow found a blanket which he covered him with. He then went outside and restarted the fire that was in the fire pit just outside the hut's entrance. It was late afternoon, and it would soon get colder.
Makcow had decided to stay and looked after their precious spiritual leader. He knew deep down that this was the right thing to so. He found another blanket for himself and some food he could cook over the fire.
He would make some for both of them, although the old man appeared to be in a deep sleep now, exhausted from his ordeal. He checked on him a few times during the night, but the old man was sound asleep.
As dawn began to break and Makcow slept soundly close the dwindling fire. The old man emerged from his hut. He smiled down at the young warrior who had saved his life and built the fire back up to take the bite out of the cold, morning air.
Makcow came around from his deep slumber to see the old man sat next to him, warming his hands on the roaring fire. The old man smiled down at him. "Ah, you are awake finally".
Makcow almost felt embarrassed he had not woken up sooner, but the old man waved off his apology. "There is nothing to apologize for. You not only saved my life, but you checked on me many times during the night. You are a good and kind soul. I thank you".
Makcow was surprised that he had noticed he had checked on him as he thought him to be sound asleep.
"So", he continued, "what did you come and see me for?". Makcow had sat up and was huddled in his blanket, warming up slowly in front of the fire.
"I came to seek your advice for the upcoming test that I face to become a man".
The old man laughed. His body shook with mirth as his big smile spread across his face. "You climb up to my hut, save my life and then ask me for advice? It is me who should be asking you for advice young man. Not the other way round".
Makcow shrugged, "I only did want any other person would have done".
"No", he said. "Any other man or women would probably have run away in terror to get help from the village. If you would have done this, then I would surely have been dead right now"
"What was that thing that attacked you?", asked Makcow, deflecting the thanks.
He sat for a moment and nodded. "It was an evil spirit. It is my own fault for not protecting my energy. I got careless and comfortable, and I nearly paid a heavy price. Thanks to you, I survived. How did you know what to do?"
"I just followed my instincts. My mother also taught me to be in a high vibration. Unconditional love and gratitude. This always beats evil and low vibration."
He nodded thoughtfully. "Well, I am certainly grateful to you so thank you".
Makcow was shy to accept the thanks and gratitude.
The old man chided him, "your heart loves it when you get thanks and gratitude. Do not shy away or feel embarrassed. Being humble is a good thing but you can still accept thanks and know that you did the right thing in a serious situation. Knowing that will give you self confidence in the future."
Makcow nodded thoughtfully, smiled and said, "you're welcome".
"Now, as for advice", continued the old man. "As you have already seen, any help or advise you require is already inside you. You must just listen to it. As you did yesterday evening.
You listened to your instincts and took action. That is all you need to do. Do not fight what your instincts are telling you. Listen to what the first voice in your head tells you to do.
The second voice is your ego trying to counteract your intuition. Don't listen to the negative or to the internal worry. Go with your instinct and take action. This will stand you in good stead in any test and indeed in life."
Makcow was grateful once more and after they ate a small breakfast, he prepared to head back down the hill.
He made sure that the old man was fine and didn't need his help and promised that they would meet again soon. Both of them experiencing valuable lessons to help them in the future.
